Support for Parents and Families

WHO WE SUPPORT

Many parents reach out because something is not working for their family:

  • School avoidance

  • Parental exhaustion

  • Wanting more connection

  • Feeling 'Blah', as if on autopilot

You may be trying everything you can think of while carrying advice, opinions, and expectations from many different directions. Over time, it can begin to feel like you are holding everything together on your own.

At The Sanctuary Tree, we begin by supporting you.

When things feel harder than you signed up for

Parents and carers we work with describe:

  • Constant tension around routines

  • A family member coping academically, but not at home, or vice versa

  • Power struggles

  • Mental health challenges

  • Sandwich generation pressures

  • Feeling lost and directionless

These experiences are more common than people often realise, and they are not a reflection of your care or effort as a parent.

Starting with the parent, not only the child

While many families seek help for their child, it is often the parent who has been carrying most over time.

When you are supported to:

  • Slow things down

  • Understanding what is happening more clearly, and

  • Feel less overwhelmed

It becomes easier to support your child in ways that are sustainable.

We focus on resourcing parents, especially when your own capacity is running low.

WHAT WE WORK ON TOGETHER

Our work is tailored to your family, though it often includes:

1.png

Practical strategies

  • Supporting sleep, transitions, and daily routines

  • Finding approaches that suit your child’s needs and your family context

3.png

Reducing overwhelm

  • Simplifying routines and expectations

  • Identifying what is essential and what can shift

2.png

Rebuilding connection

  • Strengthening the parent-child relationship

  • Moving out of constant conflict and into more workable interactions

4.png

Understanding what is happening

  • Making sense of patterns at home and school

  • Exploring whether neurodivergence, anxiety, or other factors may be present

Family-focused and attachment-informed support

We work to strengthen connections and create a sense of safety within the home.

This may include:

  • Understanding neurodivergent and attachment styles and how they show up in daily life

  • Supporting repair after periods of stress or disconnection

  • Helping family members feel seen, heard, and safe.

Our approach is about understanding how each person's experience fits into their wider family system, and how small changes can support more ease over time.

From survival mode toward something more sustainable

Many parents arrive feeling as though they are constantly in survival mode, responding, managing, and trying to keep things from unravelling.

Together, we work towards:

  • Creating space to pause and reflect

  • Identifying what 'good enough' parenting looks like in your situation

  • Supporting the foundations of safety, connection, and stability.

When these foundations are in place, children are better able to learn, adapt, and grow.

WHAT SESSIONS CAN LOOK LIKE

Sessions are adapted to suit your needs and preferences and can include:

Parenting sessions with one or both parents

2.png

In-clinic or online sessions, or a combination of these

Walk-and-talk sessions

We take a flexible approach, guided by what will be most useful and manageable for you.

You don't need to have it all worked out

If you're feeling stretched or unsure where to begin, a parent consultation can be a helpful first step.
