Meet Amanda Sturrock
Founder, The Sanctuary Tree
Amanda Sturrock
Registered Psychologist and Educator
Amanda particularly enjoys working with adolescents aged 18-30 and older adults. She is referred parents and carers of neurodivergent children of all ages, and late-diagnosed persons who are neurodivergent.
Amanda supports individuals to better understand their own or their loved one's experiences and find practical ways forward that align with their unique needs, preferences, and lifestyles.
At The Sanctuary Tree, neurodivergent-affirming care means taking an individualised approach to each person. Amanda's work often involves helping clients make sense of long-standing patterns, particularly where previous approaches may not have felt quite right.
Amanda also provides ADHD and autism screening, with a focus on understanding each person's story alongside formal screening tools. She can then advise on the best and most cost-effective pathways available.
Previous work roles have included university teaching and equity work, lecturing in education and counselling, and teaching secondary school philosophy and comparative religion. Amanda migrated to Australia to commence university, and her lived experience and work experience inform her respect for diverse populations, diverse values and belief systems. Clients are welcome to bring all aspects of their identity, their questions, as well as their concerns and interests into the space offered at The Sanctuary Tree.
Amanda's approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and grounded in helping people move from overwhelm toward greater clarity and stability. Your feedback is always a core part of the therapeutic journey, as research indicates strongly that client feedback plus the quality of the relationship with the therapist are highly correlated with achieving satisfactory outcomes from sessions.
Outside of the therapy space, Amanda enjoys the quieter moments of life. She has been with her partner for more than 36 years and is a proud parent, an animal lover, an enthusiastic traveller who also appreciates the comforts of home, and an avid reader who is rarely far from a good book. She has a particular fondness for France and French culture, and if you ask about favourite films, Contact and The Matrix are likely to make the list. These interests reflect the same curiosity, warmth, and appreciation for people's stories that she brings to her work.
Amanda welcomes enquiries to ensure she is the right fit for her clients. If you're unsure, she can help guide you based on:
-
What is bringing you in
-
The type of support you are seeking, and
-
Availability and session preferences.
Finding the right fit can make a meaningful difference, and she is here to support that process.
